WNEM TV 5 Michigan man hits lotto for almost $100000

    22.05.12

An avid lottery player tried his luck playing Club Keno at his favorite pub and ended up taking home $93,573.

He and his wife were at the bar when they saw their numbers come up on the screen.

"We were very surprised," he said.

The player, who has decided to remain anonymous, said that he's going to use most of the money to pay off debts. But he also plans to set some aside to take a small vacation with his grandchildren and buy his wife a better car.

    ROCKIN' THE JOINT

    22.05.12

SAUGUS — With its low ceilings, blood-red walls, and slinky waitresses, Maddy’s Lounge is the sort of club where Aerosmith got its start in the early 1970s. Small-time bands own the stage on Fridays and Saturdays, but the joint has Keno and karaoke, too.

On a recent Friday, in a cramped room above the bar, the lead singer makes gargling sounds while a guitarist teases his hair and applies hairspray from an aerosol can. A few minutes before 10 p.m., a roadie says, “They’re ready,” and the five members of the band descend the stairs, make their way through the steamy kitchen, and into the dark, cavernous club.

    Social Change Expands Charitable Giving

    22.05.12

After hosting a 7th bake sale in two years and raising over $10,000 for Cookies for Kids Cancer, Centreville resident Julie Sussman decided that it was time to turn the table, so to speak, on her generous and loyal bake sale friends, and allow them to raise money for something they believed in.

"I knew that I wasn't the only one who had a charity near and dear to my heart and I thought it was only fair to give others the chance to raise money, too," said Sussman, the New York Times bestselling co-author of the “Dare to Repair” series of books for women. "I asked my dear friend, Marianne Cappa, a fellow Centreville resident, to help me get it started."
