Vegas' big table games now include knives and forks
22.05.12
LAS VEGAS Install yourself on a love seat amid the crystal draperies at Chandelier, the three-level bar at Cosmopolitan Resort and Spa, and it's easy to see why gambling is losing its foothold as the big earner in this city.
Sure, there are slots and gaming tables in the room, and some folks are playing. But many are sitting on sofas and stools in the bar or riding the escalators up to eat Greek food at Estiatorio Milos (fried eggplant is sublime), nosh on a head-spinning array of tapas at Jaleo or sample Italian plates at Scott Conant's D.O.C.G. wine bar (try the fluffy arancini). All emphasize beautifully presented small plates with big flavor. Even the hotel's buffet feels upscale, with food offered on individual plates rather than in vats — a much more appetizing presentation.

Plans to bring a $1 billion resort-style casino to the New England Patriots' hometown have been suspended, Las Vegas casino developer Steve Wynn and the team's owner said Tuesday.
The announcement by The Kraft Group and Wynn Resorts came a day after Foxborough voters elected two members to the local board of selectmen who opposed opening negotiations with Wynn.
He had planned to build the resort on land leased from Patriots owner Robert Kraft across from Gillette Stadium, the team's home field.

LAS VEGAS —
A 23-year-old Irish-themed casino on the Las Vegas Strip is going dark to make way for a major entertainment district.
O'Shea's Casino is set to close at noon Monday after urging patrons to "drink us dry" over the weekend. Officials plan to implode the casino's parking garage early Tuesday.
The casino's parent company is making way for a $500 million Linq Project, which will include an outdoor shopping and dining area and a giant observation wheel.

Reborn downtown Vegas inspired by pioneer, 91
22.05.12
LAS VEGAS (AP) Jackie Gaughan won't fold. Twice a day, he stays in every hand he's dealt at a poker table at the El Cortez, the downtown casino he has nurtured and championed for five decades.
At 91, he loses more than he wins. But once upon a time, Gaughan owned a third of downtown Las Vegas, from resorts to real estate. He's celebrated as a gaming innovator, a bookmaker who loved wild prop bets and revolutionized customer promotions. Yet most of the stories you hear are about his kindness.
