One of the world’s most celebrated Mariachi groups, Mariachi Vargas de Tecalitlán, is back at the Chumash Casino Resort’s Samala Showroom at 8 p.m. Thursday, May 10.

The first incarnation of Mariachi Vargas de Tecalitlán was in 1898 as a quartet. Over the decades, the ensemble emerged as one of the most influential Mariachi bands in Mexico.

Former musical director Rubén Flores (who joined the band in 1944) arranged music for many of Mexico’s legendary singers and composers such as Lola Beltrán and Pedro Infante.

The Universal Entertainment Corp. chairman and the former Wynn Resorts vice chairman filed a petition in state court in Clark County, Nevada, in January for access to financial records. Wynn, based in Las Vegas, sued Okada in February and redeemed his 20 percent stake in Wynn Resorts saying he was “unsuitable.” Okada is challenging the redemption.
