Fly Benzo is free, so why is Mendell Plaza a no Fly zone?

20.05.12 From Hunters Point to Haiti, Black communities are fighting with an indomitable spirit against all forms of political repression – from illegal searches and seizures to illegal housing foreclosures, land thefts, police brutality, paramilitary occupations and the continuation of forced enslavement in the burgeoning – and global – prison and military industrial complex of the U.S.

Nowhere is this fight more in evidence than in the Bayview Hunters Point community in California and in all parts north, south, east and west in Haiti. The battle rages and is being waged against the same enemy.

Twin Atlantic: Headliners of JD Roots

Following in the footsteps and beer trail of Miller beer, infamous Tennessee whiskey maker, Jack Daniels, have fused alcohol and music to bring JD Roots to three cities. Tonight was the turn of Glasgow, and for the black labelled whiskey to brew up some of their own dark magic, beginning with The Black Belles from Jack White's asylum of witchcraft and wizardry. Following the likes of Biffy Clyro and Frightened Rabbit, Twin Atlantic get the full-on Scottish glitterati treatment, with not a lyric missed from fans, who scream in unison with arms outreached for the duration. A mix of sweat-drenched boys, and screaming girls, the one thing fans have in common is wide smiles on their faces, regardless of whether these are induced musically, or by skinny jeans and beards.

This Brown fought against slavery with words

    20.05.12

He was the other Brown in Bleeding Kansas, the one who didn’t approve of the things John Brown did.

Like John Brown, George Washington Brown was an abolitionist, an outspoken voice of the times held prisoner for his beliefs. The similarities end there.

George Washington Brown came to Kansas during the fall of 1854 and would soon become one of the Kansas Territory’s most visible and controversial journalists. He had been a lawyer who came to Kansas with the New England Emigrant Aid Society and settled in Lawrence, where he began operating one of the first free-state newspapers in the territory, The Herald of Freedom.
